BONE GRAFTING BUILDS A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR YOUR DENTAL IMPLANTS

Increase Jawbone Density

The purpose of the bone in your jaw is to support your teeth. For those who are missing teeth for any reason, including periodontal disease, trauma or extraction, their jawbone is not being stimulated and the bone begins to recede. With insufficient bone, your bite will begin to collapse, your facial appearance will change and you will no longer be a candidate for dental implants. To solve this, bone grafting is used to restore lost bone to the jaw and create adequate density to holdĀ dental implants.

How a Bone Graft is Performed

The bone used in a graft is either taken from you or a donor source and placed in the area where deterioration has occurred in the form of granules. A protective collagen membrane is used to cover the graft and is stitched into place. The body usually takes several months before it absorbs and fully integrates the new bone into the jaw. Once the bone has been absorbed, Dr. John Cherry can place your implants for improved success.

Advanced Technology for a Successful Bone Graft

A bone graft may seem like an intensive surgery, but Dr. Cherry uses many different forms of technology to make the process near-painless and quick to heal. Some of the advanced techniques Dr. Cherry uses include:

PIEZOSURGERY

A minimally invasive way to harvest bone used for the graft or prepare a location to receive the graft. Through the use of ultrasonic frequency, soft tissue will not be damaged and a clean cut will be made for quick healing.

PLASMA RICH FACTOR (PRGF)

A technique used to speed up the healing process by isolating proteins found in your blood and applying those proteins directly to the surgery site.

Implant Supported Dentures

Dr. Cherry is certified by the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the use of IV sedation to give you a pain and anxiety-free dental experience.
